Ikat is one of my overall favorite designs. It has an old world feel while still adding freshness. What is it though? Ikat is a method of weaving that uses a dyeing process simmilar to tie-dye. It is an Indonesian word but due to the fact that fabric does not hang around for centuries it is hard to say who actually invented it. Nevertheless, it is one of the oldest forms of textile decoration.
How great is that! The designs are varied thanks to so many other cultures adopting this weaving technique. Designers are using it today in many new ways. Pick your favorite Ikat!
